Blade
As far as comic book adaptations go, Wesley Snipe’s as “Blade” leaves something to be desired. A vampire hunter looking to avenge the death of his mother, bitten by a vampire during her pregnancy, Blade has an impressive skill set. Not only does he possess certain vampiric qualities, including immortality, he also has several high-tech gadgets provided to him by his Alfred-esque cohort Adam Whistler (Kris Kristofferson).

As is the case with most action movies, during one of the adrenaline charged action scenes Blade learns of a horrible plot hatched by the movies decidedly archetypish villain Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff). A powerful vampire overlord, Frost has managed to infiltrate some of the largest human organizations. It seems that his current plan is to become “Bloodlord” a title which would allow him control of all vampires, and help him realize his ultimate goal: the destruction of humanity. Of course, Blade is involved, his blood being what Frost needs to summon the “blood god” who will in turn allow him to destroy the human race. While certainly action packed, Blade is perfect in almost every other department one could think of for a film. The dialogue and much of the acting is replaced by a gory combination of over done martial arts, and strange film techniques. The film deliver on action and effects, super charged with fight sequences and plenty of blood and violence. Stephen Dorff may be the only redeeming quality to the film, providing a villain that is immensely creepy, and at the same time deliciously entertaining.

This is certainly a movie for the true Blade fan, one who can appreciate its cinematic and the attempt to make Blade come to life. Blade was succeeded by several sequels, and a short-lived lived action TV series, all equally as well as the comic. The power of an immortal. The soul of a human. The heart of a hero. A worth of time and money.
