Fantastic Four
Ever since Spider-Man opened to rabid audiences, comic books everywhere have undergone the transformation from heroes of the page to heroes of the big screen.

“Fantastic Four” is the latest in these comic book movie adaptations. Fantastic Four also promises an all star cast, ranging from the dastardly Julian McMahon to the slinky Jessica Alba.

The movie opens on Reed Richardson (Ioan Gruffudd) and Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis), who are astronaut researchers, trying to fund a research study on DNA. This study is incredibly important as it has the potential to help millions of people. Their only option, however, is Dr. Victor Von Doom, a billionaire who also manages to provide the equipment necessary for the project. Von Doom brings with him Reed’s ex-lover Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) and her firecracker brother Johnny Storm (Chris Evans). As must happen with comic book adaptations, the super hero’s must eventually leave their ordinary lives for ones filled with danger and super powers. A freak space storm reacts with the experiment being performed, and in turn alters the DNA of all involved, giving them their strange super powers.

Sue Storm becomes the Invisible Woman, who in addition to blinking herself out of existence is able to create a shield out of light. Johnny becomes the Human Torch, and can pretty much set himself alight. Ben becomes The Thing, a rock type creature who is reminiscent of Juggernaut from the famed X-Men series. Reed becomes Mr. Fantastic, and can stretch any body part like Stretch Armstrong. Not only are the Fantastic Four affected, Dr. Doom also boasts super powers, with a metal skeletal system and electrical manipulation.

Fantastic Four proves to be a fun ride. It is packed with action and humor. It even surprisingly has a little human feeling, something severely lacking from many comic book adaptations. The characters have depth and stay true to their comic book personas. Fantastic Four is a must-see and it is certainly a fun ride for comic book fans everywhere.
