X-Men is your ultimate futuristic movie replete with mutants possessing strange powers and performing next-to-impossible stunts.
The movie is set in future United States, where a bill is being debated that requires all mutants to register with the government. The mutants are human beings who, because of DNA mutations, possess special powers. Senator Kelly, played by Bruce Davison tries to whip public opinion into frenzy, Magneto, played by Ian McKellen, is one of the most powerful mutants. He believes that Senator Kelly’s words would instigate a war and he prepares to launch a pre-emptive counter attack in an attempt to save mutantkind. He is dissuaded by his old friend, the telepathic Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and his motley band of “X-Men” consisting of Storm (Halle Berry), who is capable of controlling the weather; Dr. Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), who has telekinetic powers and Cyclops (James Marsden) who emits laser beams from his eyes. Professor X and everybody else at his “School for Gifted Children” believe that everybody should co-exist peacefully. Joining Magneto in his quest are three other misguided mutants – Mystique, a blue-skinned shapeshifter, played by Rebecca Romijn Stamos in an interesting costume; the agile-but-ugly Toad, played by Ray Park and the ferocious beast Sabretooth, played by Tyler Mane. Meanwhile, two newcomers arrive at the “School for Gifted Children”. Rogue, played by Anna Paquin is a teenage girl who is frightened by her recent discovery that she drains the life energy of whoever she touches. The second person is Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman. He has a strange wolf-like appearance and razor-sharp retractable claws that spring out from the back of both his hands. Rogue and Wolverine share a sibling-like bond and while they consider the option of joining Professor X, along comes Magneto and his wily schemes and takes that takes the decision right out of their hands.
